Best-rated vinyl plank flooring for your house in Perth

When you look at luxury vinyl plank (LVP) from far away, the brands appear to blend together. When you get a closer look and you stand on the floor, you can easily tell the difference between the good plank and bad plank vinyl flooring.

There are a few qualities that separate the best plank from the cheaper plank and the barely passable plank. These include:

• Thickness
• Layer of wear
• Resister embossing quality
• Visual layer quality
• Edge treatments
• The size of the selection available
• Warranty
• The company’s reputation

Here are 5 of the best vinyl plank flooring available in the market:

#1 Shaw

Shaw carries Classico, Premio, Aviator, Easy Street, and Navigator. They are very serious when it comes to vinyl plank. They currently have 7 different lines. In each line, there are between 7 and 13 species or color variations. Shaw works hard to offer something for everyone. If you want something that is cheap and thin, they have it. If you want something that is thick and premium, they have that too.

Luxury vinyl is so special because of its thickness. The Premio and Classico lines are 6.5mm thick. This is a full quarter inch, which is one of the thickest in the industry. Also, the Premio and Classico lines have a wear layer that is 20mil thick. Even the lines that are considered to be middle of the road are great. Typical, middle of the road is from 48 to 36 inches. Shaw’s mid-range planks in the Navigator and Aviator lines are 48 inches.

#2 Armstrong

Armstrong’s major line is Luxe Plank. While Shaw is all about choice, Armstrong is all about simplicity. Their Luxe Plank line is broken down into three levels, good, better, and best. Most of the wood-style planks offered by Armstrong are safe and they carry popular styles such as Jatoba, maple, walnut, and oak.

None of the planks offered by Armstrong will reach the 6.5mm thickness offered by Shaw, however, they do have planks that are 4mm, which is a very respectable thickness. When it comes to joining the boards, all of Armstrong’s vinyl planks use a self-stick adhesive. Some use this adhesive along with a click/lock function.

#3 Mannington

Mannington carries Adura and Distinctive planks. The Distinctive Line is the best and the Adura is considered to be a middle of the road plank.
Adura is the most cost-effective plank if you are reflooring your home on a budget. The dimensions of the Adura are 4 inches x 36 inches, with a 4mm thickness. The oaks, teaks, and maples aren’t spectacular but they are nice. They are simply solid, basic vinyl which is great if you are remodeling your kitchen on a small budget. It is also great for a finished basement, a second bathroom, or the kids’ bedroom.

If you want your floor to make a statement, you should upgrade to the Distinctive Plank. The size of this line is a full 6 inches x 48 inches. They have more soothing colors than Adura offers, they are darker, and they have micro-beveled edges. The embossing on the Distinctive Plank is more complex. The only similarities between the two are the thickness, which is 4mm.

#4 Karndean

Karndean carries Loose Lay and Art Select. If you don’t mind paying a bit more money for luxury vinyl that looks better than most floors and installs differently, Karndean is a great option.

The Art Select brand is the only brand that has a wood parquet-look that actually looks good. Many other companies sell reclaimed wood planks, chipped paint, and whitewashes. Karndean is different. They sell planks with a more classic look, such as maples and oaks. All of their planks are 4.5mm and the wear layer is 20mils thick.

The Loose Lay is a method of installation used by Darndean that doesn’t use the typical adhesive to join the planks or the click/lock system. Instead, the planks have a friction grip that goes on the floor with a soft, heavy backing. During installation, the planks butt against the skirt boards on the perimeter of the wall and then against each other. This method helps you to avoid inevitable ridges and bumps that often occur with the click into place planks.

#5 Lumber Liquidators

Lumber Liquidators carries Tranquility. Companies like Mannington, Shaw, and Armstrong represent the old guard, while Lumber Liquidators is considered to be the disruptive upstart, which is close to 20 years old.

Their house brand is called Tranquility. It is by far the most beautiful LVP on the market today. Some of the planks are grained so dramatically and streaked that they are described using the word garnish.

You should know that their selection is limited. They have only 25 luxury planks in all. Also, they don’t have anything special when it comes to the warranty. Although it is a 50-year warranty, there are plenty of exceptions, therefore, it would take you at least 50 years before you could even use it.
